The Vision

In 2023, in Kiteezi, a community north of Kampala, a group of young skateboarders led by Cynthia Kemigisha built their own 90m² DIY skatepark from scratch. Calling themselves the Climate Skaters, they skate in an area most affected by climate change. This reality became tragically clear after the 2024 Kiteezi landfill collapse, which devastated their neighborhood.

Now, together with MLSL and Uganda’s broader skate community, they take action by transforming their small DIY spot into Uganda’s first international-standard public concrete skatepark.

The Project

International volunteer builders alongside local youth will build a 450m² safe, free public skatepark. A community classroom housed in a repurposed shipping container, will host workshops on environmental education, leadership, and gender equality.

Kiteezi Skatepark brings together skaters from Climate Skaters Kiteezi, Kampala Skateboarding Initiative, and Uganda Skateboard Society collaborating toward one goal: making skateboarding accessible in Uganda and the whole of Africa.

Why It Matters

45% of Ugandans are under 14, yet there are almost no public spaces for recreation and learning. The Kiteezi Skatepark will reach 100+ young people every week, offering a safe and creative environment for youth development. It will strengthen girls’ leadership in sport, environmental awareness, and community action.

How You Can Help

We aim to raise $17,500 through this campaign. Funds will go directly toward concrete, tools, and materials sourced locally. Your support will also empower local youth volunteers to be part of every step. Every contribution counts!
